Sunday Night Swing:
Every Sunday night at Joy’s School of Dance (click here for a map), we have a lesson from 7:00pm to 8:00pm followed by a short dance which runs until 9:30pm. Our lesson series for January will cover Charleston. If you missed a week or if you’re new to swing dancing, come at 6:30pm, and we’ll go over what you need to know. The requested donation is $5 each week. We will break from our Charleston series on February 19, March 18, and April 22 to teach the Big Apple (here is a good instructional video).

The Baylor Concert Jazz Ensemble will be playing at 7:30pm at Jones Concert Hall (in the Glennis McCrary Music Building at Baylor). The concert is free and open to the public.

The San Antonio Swing Dance Society is hosting their annual Alamo Stomp! The weekend will include dances on Friday and Saturday night with classes during the day on Saturday and Sunday. The instructors for the weekend include Kevin St. Laurent, Jo Hoffberg, Mike Roberts, and Joanna Lucero (who is also teaching at the Aggie Stomp). The cost is $65 for the first 15 people, $75 for members/affiliates, $85 for non-members, and $95 at the door.

The Waco Jazz Orchestra will be playing a “Big Band Jazz Signatures” concert at 7:30pm at the Ball Performing Arts Center (on campus at McLennan Community College). The concert is free and open to the public.
Workshop: Friday, March 15 thru Sunday, March 18, 2012
The Houston Swing Dance Society is hosting its annual Lindyfest, which is the largest workshop in Texas and one of the best in the country. This year, all of the classes and dances will be at the Intercontinental Hotel near the Galleria in Houston. There are classes from 11:00am to 6:00pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and dances from 9:00pm until your feet fall off (either 3:00am or 5:00am, depending on the day). The current price for the whole workshop is $169, but they offer a la carte prices for the dances each night. There is also a discounted rate of $100 per room per night for staying at the Intercontinental, so we can save some money if we can fit 4 to a room (let us know if you are interested by sending an email to kevin@wsds.org)
